Pros:
- Fit, finish, feel. All nice. The buttons have a nice click to them. No complaints there.
- Buttons, again. There are plenty of them. This is nice as you may want to program the buttons. I did. My receiver for example. When I told the remote which receiver I had it pulled in many of the buttons for it, but it didn't pull in several of them. The sleep timer button for example, I use frequently. So I just programmed it to a button on the remote (See learned keys in the screenshot).
- The remote may have your device in a database and program itself automatically, or it can learn from the old device. Which also means if you have a specific key that's missing, you can make that key a button.
- Macros. I used these on this remote to do things like turn on the TV, receiver, and switch receiver inputs, all from a single button. Or turn everything off at once. These are just a way to string buttons or commands together.
- Replaceable Batteries. It takes double AAs. Some might think of this as a con. I personally think of this as a positive. I prefer something I can just swap out the batteries in.
- Customer support. I had one issue. SofaBaton claims a response time of 24 hours, and they actually mean it. They responded well within that time, answered my question, and it fixed my issue. My issue too, sort of seemed like a signal strength issue which have mentioned, I just needed to issue a duplicate command in my macro, and everything worked as it should.
Cons:
- Macros are limited to 10 commands. This can be an issue if you have a TV like mine where maybe you need to navigate a menu to get to something. You can quickly chew through this 10 command limit. (If you need more than 10, the X1S does 49)
- It's up to you to remember what learned keys do. If you don't remember, you're stuck pressing them. I almost wish the app would let you make notes.
- Same with Macro keys. However, here you can open the app, and view / edit the macro.
- Due the number of keys and being able to program them to random things, my significant other and son where a bit overwhelmed by this one.
Overall:
Overall, this is my go-to remote. It's a solid choice, and easy to program, and use in my opinion. Currently at $60 and being able to replace the mess of remotes I had before, easy recommendation.

See the pic. It could use a few more assignable buttons. I am replacing the four remotes on the left with the U1 shown on the right. Note that the Verizon remote has numbered buttons for channel selection as does the TV remote. And the Denon AVR remote has a group of input select buttons. These are important for direct access to select channels without scrolling through all the intermediate stations. The Denon input select buttons are a nice direct way of selecting between the various signal sources such as the Verizon STB and Roku.
The U1 would be perfect if they added a small matrix of buttons (about 8) above the U-D-L-R-OK pad to complement the keypad at the bottom. I subbed the colored button row for the inputs I wanted on the Denon AVR. On the Denon there is no other way to access the inputs other than to pick up the Denon remote and select it from there. Four buttons on the U1 and at least 8 selections on the Denon.
An unavoidable issue is the selection of the particular device. With the U1 you choose the device on the little OLED screen with a roller and then operate the remote. With multiple controllers, you still have to find the right controller and then perform the function. So from this aspect, there is no time advantage. However having all remote controls in one package reduces clutter and fumbling around for separate controllers.
The keypad buttons are so small and close together, they are almost impossible to use without double hits or completely missing a number - sending you to the wrong channel. This was done to keep the product small, but is bad enough I'd call it a design defect. Ditto with the assignable "-" and "E" buttons to either side of the "0" key.
Setup: This is one of the best things about it, short of using it. However, you have to create an account from the cell phone app. Cannot be done on the computer, where I save my myriad of passwords in a password safe. Inconvenient, but workable. Just set up an account and add devices by brand and model. The button info is uploaded to the U1 from the phone via Bluetooth. You can then assign additional keys by simply touching the key on the cell phone and holding the device's remote in front of the U1 and hitting the key function you want to be assigned. The U1 reads the remote and records its code, assigning it to the selected button.
Macros: It is supposed to record macros so that a single button can enable multiple functions, such as turning all equipment on and off. It is supposed to include programmable delay periods during sequences so none are missed, a problem I have with the Verizon remote. To-date I have not found any information in the manual or on their website on how to do this. Although some operations are relatively easy to figure out without instructions, the macro implementation is a mystery and not explained.
The manual: In a word, Poor. Website info on operation of their product - poor - just the 6 page poor leaflet scanned in. The manual does not explain how to use all the features of the U1, which are a lot. Nothing on Macros.
Recommendation: The unit works well but documentation is sparse. For combining only two controls into one, it's not worth it. But if you have three or more, the U1 is a very good replacement. Recommended to reduce clutter.

I found that there aren't enough buttons for all the commands on some remotes so you have to choose the ones you absolutely need. The other way around this is to create 2 remotes and splt the commands over these. I put basic functions on the first and setup functions on the second. Overall it's a great remote.
Initially my Sony TV was not listed in the app, so contacted SofaBaton- they emailed me back within 24 hours and had it added on - worked without a problem
Easy to modify the remotes buttons to your own choices
Happy customer
Overall it is a good controller, for anyone not using logitech, this will be excellent. I like the use of mobile apps for setup, very convenient. Very customizable, I can set the volume buttons to work on my amp only regardless to which device is selected.
But on the down side, the controller has limited buttons, will be better if there are more buttons. The number buttons are too small. Devices in data base seems limited. Learning from old remote take some luck of finding the right distance and angle.
Overall this si a good buy, take some time to setup and fine tune it, after that it should be a joy to have for anyone with multiple devices.
