Easy to install and mount surround speakers

Easy to install and mount surround speakers
I purchased these wall mounts so that my two surround speakers could be elevated above my listening position in my apartment. From start to finish, the whole process took about two hours. I had some furniture to move so the drywall dust wouldn't get over everything.I saw many reviews showing the finished product with everything already installed including the speakers so I decided to upload a review with pictures of how the mounts actually attach to the wall. If you are like me, you enjoy the planning element of a project: taking measurements, buying the correct hardware, and knowing ahead of time what you are going to have to accomplish to do the job "right." I hope that you find my review helpful when planning to wall mount your speakers! The three holes on the speaker mounts are 1/4 inch diameter. The top two are offset left and right from center and the bottom on is centered in the plate. There is a small recess in the hole for the screw to sit inside and the recess is flush with the back of the mounting plate against the wall. Many reviews cited that the clamps didn't always hold the speaker and some people said their speakers fell! There are screws provided with the mounts (called "security screws") that you can literally screw your speaker to the mount (permanently damaging your speaker). I didn't want to do this. However, at least one reviewer had used Velcro to help keep the speakers on the platform. I purchased Velcro for this same purpose. I am glad that I did and for the cheap cost of Velcro with the few minutes it took me to secure the speaker to the platform, I now have a peace of mind that my speakers are secure and shouldn't fall. However, the thickness of the Velcro makes the speaker sit oddly on the plate but with some adjusting of the angle and positioning of the speaker on the mount, I was able to get the desired vertical angle I needed. I could have used an additional strip of Velcro in the back but I would have wanted to cut it so that the adhesive wouldn't interfere with the pivoting mechanism. Personally, I'm not concerned and am happy with the result overall. My surround left speaker (black screws) was able to be mounted right into a stud. I used my stud finder to see where the stud was and was surprised to find that it lined up closely with where I intended to mount my speaker. Due to the height of my Polk T15 speakers, I figured I would be able to use the top of the speaker mount to approximate the center of my speaker and therefore used the top edge when determining the height of my mounting. This allowed me to put the center of the speaker approximately 2.5 feet above my listening position. I used thick painter's tape and a permanent marker to mark the hole locations I needed to drill for the provided black screws which then went directly into the stud. I used a bubble level to make sure that the final placement of the mount was level when the screws were tightened. The surround right speaker mount required the use of hollow wall anchors. I intentionally used 3/16 inch wall anchors (screw size) and got ones that expand when you turn the screw so the anchor squeezes the drywall. If you use these, be sure the anchor has completely gripped the backside of the drywall. Follow the instructions of the anchors you choose. Installation was the same as the previous mount but because the screw size was slightly smaller, I had to adjust the wall mount while tightening. I think it turned out well.Getting the angle and rotation of the speaker correct was slightly taxing. The speaker wants to turn and tilt when tightening the bolt which holds the platform to the wall mount. Additionally, because of the Velcro, sometimes the speaker would slip in the mount. I was able to get the angle and tilt I wanted but a part of me hopes that I never need to adjust that again.

5.0 out of 5 stars So far so good
Reviewed in the United States on November 19, 2012
In my ideal setup I would not be mounting speakers (or use bookshelf speakers for that matter), but due to the limited space I recently moved into, mounting was the only solution. I've been looking at mounts for a while and narrowed my selection down to the particular offerings from Pinpoint and Rocelco. I almost pulled the trigger on one of those mounts until I stumbled upon these, which seems to be a new item since it never came up in search results before. I ultimately bought these because of the price and that they look identical to the ones from the previous mentioned brands. When I opened the box I immediately noticed the excellent quality of these mounts. Now the speakers I'm using weigh 20 pounds each and I absolutely did not want to drill and put screws into them and was afraid the foam pads wouldn't cut it. The only feasible solution was to use something called [[ASIN:B001FGLX72 Blu-Tack Reusable Adhesive]]. I've used this stuff before when I had my speakers mounted on stands and it works real well, so well that it took a good amount to effort to separate the speakers from the stands.

After finding the studs in the wall and screwing the mounts in (they come with a plastic cover to hide the scews), I tugged on it with a good amount of force; they're not going anywhere. Next was to mount the speakers. I put blu tack on the sides and the surface the of mounting plates and placed the speakers on top; tightened the clamping screws and adjusted the position of the speakers. My speakers are 12" deep and there's enough clearance for them to pivot 180 degrees. These mounts aren't designed to tilt much, the photo I posted shows the speaker in it's max tilt position. I've only had the speakers mounted for a day, not enough to determine stability which only time will tell. So far I can say I'm pretty content with the way are and will keep a close eye on them; I am after all taking a risk with some expensive speakers. If you can, secure your speakers with screws, unfortunately it's not something I want to do on something with such a nice finish. Besides that, this is an excellent purchase with tremendous amount of value and installation was simple and straight forward.

UPDATE 02/14/2013: So it's been nearly 3 months since I mounted them and they're holding strong. My speakers have not creeped forward or moved at all for that matter. I have complete confidence in these mounts and still think they are the best for the price.

UPDATE 11/17/2013: It's been a year now and the mounts are still in the same place. Speakers haven't moved a millimeter. Truly an excellent purchase.

UPDATE 03/24/2016: Two years ago I moved the speakers into an office setting. Overall they've been mounted on the stands for about 3-1/2 years and have never given me any doubts about its ability to do its job.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Near-perfect Way to Mount Bookshelf Speakers to the Wall
Reviewed in the United States on September 17, 2016
I recently bought a pair of these speaker wall mounts from here on Amazon so I could mount my trusty old pair of BIC America DV62si bookshelf speakers up high on the wall and out of the way of everything else. I'm remodeling my computer room and a I'm going for a clean, contemporary look, or a more modern look, so to speak. Along with the speakers mounted to the wall, I also mounted my HDTV to the wall using a wall mount that I had in storage, and just below it I installed a new wall mount DVD stand. Now, I'll be able to hide all the cables behind the DVD stand that before were sticking out and running around everywhere. Again, I'm going for a clean, clutter-free look.

As for the wall mounts themselves, yeah, they are pretty good. For the low price, you really can't go wrong here. They look great and have a very good quality to them. The parts are either heavy duty stamped steel or high quality plastic. The supplied hardware is good quality stuff too. Impressive.

Design-wise, the wall mounts are very simple--very practical. They were easy to install, and they work quite well. Installation to the wall studs was a breeze. It took me about an hour to do everything including mounting the speakers to the speaker clamps themselves. Once finished, you can then rotate the speakers left to right, and/or tilt up and down to get them pointing in the direction you want. There was just enough down-tilting adjustment to get my speakers nearly pointing right at me while sitting down 11 feet away. Left-right rotation is far greater than up-down tilting, for good reason; you don't want to tilt your speakers too far forward, getting too top heavy and potentially come lose from the clamps.

Speaking of the speaker clamps. If there is anything to complain about, it IS the speaker clamps. They could be a little bit better designed. I had to screw one screw into each speaker as part of the clamping procedure. I wish I didn't have to do this (drill holes into my speakers) but I was afraid that one or both of the speakers would have come loose some day and fall seven feet straight to the ground, hitting stuff on the way down. I nearly gave these wall speaker mounts a four star rating because of this, but then I remembered their low price. So Fives Stars. And Highly Recommended.
