Sofabaton X2 Smart Remote – First Look
Those who know me know that I LOVED my Harmony Elite. Even after Logitech announced it was discontinuing the brand, I held fast. That was, until it became unstable. I was sad, but not for long because the Sofabaton X1S replaced that void in my heart. But I still missed some of the functionality of my Elite, and I also missed touch-screen control.
Well, good news home theater nerds! Sofabaton has announced the Sofa Baton X2 Smart Remote Control! It has a touch screen, charging base, and some other goodies that really do make it the Harmony Killer. Set to release in October 2025, I am excited. Let’s discuss.
What’s The Same?
Don’t expect the Sofabaton X2 to be a reinvention of the existing remotes. Rather, it builds on an already reliable platform and tweaks it with some quality of life features. Here is what they are building on:
Centralized management of multiple devices
Supports adding up to 50 devices, including TVs, STBs, receivers, projectors, and other audio-visual equipment
Activity Scenario Linkage
Create custom activities (such as “movie mode”) to trigger multiple associated devices to work together with a single click.
Third-party voice platform
Compatible with Alexa and Google Assistant, voice commands directly control devices. This means that after syncing with Google Home, you can see Sofabaton’s activity directly on the Devices page.

What’s New?
This list is going to be a lot more expansive. While the X2 retains the core functions, Sofabaton listened to their customers and added some new features.
Intelligent Control Expansion
The system now supports Home Assistant integration and IP control via HTTPS, enabling seamless cross-platform device linkage. Whether you’re syncing lights, thermostats, or speakers, the control center just got a lot smarter.
Infrared Signal Coverage Boost
Say goodbye to line-of-sight limitations. With a built-in transmitter in the remote and a repeater-enabled hub, users can now control infrared devices across multiple rooms, bringing whole-home coverage to legacy tech.

You heard me right, folks! The remote now has a built-in IR transmitter and there are IR extenders included with the new Sofabaton X2 that should mean no more dead spots.

Bluetooth Functionality Expansion
Bluetooth connectivity has leveled up with one-to-many support and zero-delay switching. That means faster, more reliable control of multiple devices simultaneously.
Enhanced Bluetooth & Wi-Fi Compatibility
Already compatible with ROKU, SONOS, and Philips Hue, the system is expanding to include more Wi-Fi device brands. Think smart TVs, speaker systems, and even HA remote control support. It’s a big step toward universal smart home harmony.
Quick Access to Numeric Keypad & Macros
A new collection button below the screen allows instant access to the numeric keypad and macro functions, streamlining control for power users and home theater enthusiasts alike.
Cross-Platform Compatibility on the Horizon
Coming soon: support for Matter’s universal switch function. This promises to unlock cross-brand scene linkage, making your smart home ecosystem more fluid and interoperable than ever.
Code Repository & Interaction Optimization
Behind the scenes, the system’s database has been cleaned up, removing incorrect code libraries to improve device matching accuracy. Users will also notice a significant boost in interaction response speed.
Our Take
I am very excited to get my hands on the new Sofabaton X2. While my X1S is great, there were just a few things that I missed about my Harmony Elite, and the X2 seems like it might be the new heir to the smart remote throne.
Inclusion of an IR transmitter in the remote and a new, larger IR blaster makes me hopeful the X2 will be in Elite territory. While we don’t have a firm release date or pricing, we hope to have something more solid in the coming weeks. Plus, I am earmarked to get a review unit, so look for a full review soon!

I need a remote that is similar to the Harmony brand with RF blasters.
Will this support RF?
Hi Jeff,
According to the specs I was provided, there is support for rf433/rf315.
What types of devices are you attempting to control?
The biggest RF that I am looking for is the Dish Network Hopper 3. My understanding is that the X2 will also support mulitable remotes like my Harmony Elite.
It absolutely will. I have the X1S setup with multiple remotes, inputs and other things.
I have an X2 on the way, so a review will be forthcoming.
Will there finally be a local API for these remotes?
I’m a big fan of Sofabaton and bought both the X1 and the X1S based on your reviews. The X1 worked 90% of the time for my macros… but the X1S nails it every time. Epson projector, Denon receiver, Amazon Fire Stick, PS5, and Lutron IR lights.
I probably won’t grab this one (yet) as everything is currently working very smoothly. The only thing I “lack” is voice control like I have with the original Fire Stick remote. That’s not a huge loss—I just grab it when I want to do a voice search…come to think of it, that’s pretty often, lol.
If the X1S breaks or the battery capacity drops too far… I’ll likely grab the X2, but I don’t anticipate that being anytime soon.
Thanks, Clint. I have an X2 on the way for review. I am not sure if it will be “Next Gen” or just a logical upgrade. I suspect logical upgrade, but I am excited to see how it functions!
Is the X2 a backlit remote?
The biggest thing I miss from Harmony Elite is being able to control volume & change channels. Hopefully the X2 will rectify this.
