Sony PlayStation VR 2 Updates
There are lots of people that are excitedly waiting for the next generation of PlayStation VR. Tentatively called the PlayStation VR 2, their big news is that we shouldn’t expect it this year (2021). So, here’s what we know so far:
- Won’t release in 2021
- Will have a single cable attached to a console
- Will work exclusively with the PS5
- Has a new controller akin to the Oculus Quest 2 controller (see below)
- Improved graphics
- Wider field of view
New PlayStation VR 2 Controller Details
The most information we have currently on the Sony PlayStation VR 2 is on the controllers. They promise much more functionality and a lot of changes that will make VR much more realistic than ever before. Let’s break down what we know.
- Improved ergonomics
- Haptic feedback
- Adaptive triggers
- Capacitance on buttons can sense touch without pressure
- Controller tracking from the headset
- No more camera required
- No more glowing ping-pong balls
There is a lot to be excited about with the announcement of the new PlayStation VR 2 controllers. The adaptive triggers can “resist” your push to give a more realistic experience. The lack of a required camera and a single cable simplifies the setup. Having the controllers tracked by the headset means you have much greater freedom of movement. The overall shape and layout are much better than the sticks with ping-pong balls of the current PSVR system. All-in-all, these new controllers show that Sony is not afraid to push the boundaries of their VR technology.
