The NVIDIA Shield Gets An Update In 2025!
If anyone has followed my articles, you will realize that I am still a HUGE fan of the NVIDIA Shield. Despite the latest generation of Shields (2019) being nearly six years old, they are still (arguably) THE best Plex media player out there. After two long years of waiting, the NVIDIA Shield gets an update in 2025! Dubbed Shield Experience 9.2, NVIDIA rolled out a series of upgrades, bug fixes, and a new format update! Let’s discuss.
What’s New?
NVIDIA has provided a comprehensive list of updates, enhancements, and resolved bugs. While most are minor, it shows that NVIDIA is still standing behind its equipment. I don’t think that any other company (aside from Logitech) has shown this much support for their aging devices.
It should be noted that this update was available as a hotfix months ago, but it was never officially supported by NVIDIA, and you had to sign up for it to get it pushed to your device. Shield Experience 9.2 is now officially supported and is an OTA update that any Shield can download and install.
Upgraded Apps
AURO-3D This update unlocks full support for playback of high-resolution immersive sound in AURO-3D over HDMI. Connect your NVIDIA SHIELD TV Pro to an AURO-3D compatible decoder and enjoy the most natural 3D sound experience from streaming apps such as Artist Connection.

Our Take
The original NVIDIA Shield launched in May 2015 and nearly 10 years later it is still getting updates! Although it is still the most expensive streamer on the market at $199, the support it still gets makes it worth the price.
While there are not many new features, NVIDIA made the Shield more useable with a significant number of bug fixes. But I have to ask, does this signal that NVIDIA still sees value in the Shield family of devices and might we get a new Shield Pro in 2025? If they do, sign me up!
