Pioneer Desk Live Wireless Speakers with Dirac HD Sound
Pioneer is working with Swedish High-end audio company Direct Research to develop the Pioneer Desk Live wireless speakers. These are a pair of compact USB-powered wireless loudspeakers. These Pioneer Dirac HD Sound wireless speakers will feature the company’s Dirac HD Sound and is being developed to satisfy users in the high-end audiophile market looking for computer speakers that approach the sound quality they expect.
This is a licensing agreement which means Pioneer Corporation will be distributing these new Dirac HD Sound speakers to its channel partners. The Dirac HD Sound technology gained additional fame when it hit the popular Oppo Find 5 smartphone. Initial and sustained feedback from consumers is that the company is really onto something big. The first speakers to utilize the technology are the Pioneer Desk Live series, a line of wireless powered speakers that have a nice modern look and seem perfect for the minimized desktop application for which they were constructed. These speakers will appeal to audio and hi-fi enthusiasts who are looking for high performance from a small, but stylish, form factor.

Pioneer has impressed us with its ability to generate incredible sound on a budget. The Pioneer Desk Live speakers with Dirac HD seem no exception. Pioneer has designed these new near-field speakers to deliver high resolution audio with a tight but wide soundstage. Combined with Dirac’s digital audio processing, our guess is they will pull it off (we’ll need to get in a pair for review). These new wireless speakers are slated to be made available in in Japan in July and distribution to the U.S. and other markets will follow.
“Both Dirac and Pioneer have a long history of making great audio products and we are excited for an opportunity to bring Dirac HD Sound technology to Pioneer’s high performance loudspeakers. This cooperation with Pioneer and our most recent automotive venture with Volvo highlight the flexibility and diverse capabilities of Dirac’s audio processing technologies.”
Steve Hase, Executive Vice President of Licensing at Dirac
With these speakers, Pioneer and Dirac HD are creating a mash-up of traditional speaker design and high-fidelity digital audio technology. We can’t wait to check them out!
