Disspelling All the Myths: EarFun Clip 2 Open-Ear Wireless Earbuds Review
I’ve tested nearly every type of earbud, earphone, ear-whatever that has been devised. I’ve experienced in-ear, on-ear, and over-ear headphones. With the advent of earphones designed for use while exercising, I’ve tried out or reviewed everything from earphones with loops, bone-conducting technology, and many different types of “open-ear” designs. One that I had no experience with, until this review, was the type that grabs onto the helix of your ear. Honestly, they didn’t look very comfortable and I couldn’t imagine they’d sound very good. Both of those assumptions were, as I found out through this review of the $80 EarFun Clip 2 earbuds, misguided and false. Let’s take a closer look!
Editor’s Note: EarFun currently has a special where you can get 25% off the Clip 2 earbuds on Amazon by using the coupon code EFC2PR01. This brings the price down from $80 to $60! Available for a limited time!

First Impressions and Comfort
The EarFun Clip 2 earbuds come with a charging case and a USB-C charging cable. They are designed to clip onto the helix of your ear. The smaller side has the driver and sits inside the concha area of your ear. The clamping pressure is very slight. The larger side of the Clip 2 sit on the back of your ear. There is a physical button on the “top” (all of this is hard to describe) used for control. The button has a satisfying “click” to let you know that your command has been received.

Many times, when I read through a specs list (like the one above), I assume that all of them are true (to an extent) but are often stated in such a way as to make the product look as good as possible. If you take the first bullet point, for example, it says “Ultra-light…skin-friendly fit for all day wear.” Technically, anything can be worn all day, and I’m sure even the most uncomfortable product will have at least one user who will state it is comfortable for them all day. That’s not the case here.

When I first started using the Clip 2 earphones, I was sure I would find them uncomfortable in no time. Instead, after a full day of work where I wore only one of the earphones, I noticed no discomfort. When I removed the earbud at the end of the day, there was no residual pain or pressure. These truly are comfortable.
Sound Quality
If you’ve ever used bone-conducting headphones, you know that good sound quality isn’t necessarily a priority for “exercise” headphones. People love their bone-conducting headphones and they universally sound like garbage. I was expecting similar from this style of headphone. With the speaker sitting outside the ear canal, how good could they possibly sound?
Surprisingly, the answer is, “Very good!”

At moderate to high volume, the EarFun Clip 2 earbuds have a balanced sound and an impressive amount of bass. As you might expect, they struggle to maintain the bass output and balanced frequency response at low volume. Using the app, you have the ability to adjust the EQ to boost the bass during low-volume usage. Just remember to change the EQ back when increasing the volume as it’ll sound bloated if you don’t.
EarFun App and Use
I’ve covered the EarFun app in a number of reviews (most recently here). While there are some slight differences based on the type of earphone, the app is generally the same. I find it very usable and intuitive. These, like the Air Pro 4+, include the real-time translation function.

Obviously, the real customers for the Clip 2 earbuds are those that want earphones for use while exercising. The “open-air” design promises to allow in outside noise to keep you safe while running or doing other outdoor activities. But how well does that work in practice? I mean…it depends. Mostly on the volume of your music. Yes, the EarFun Clip 2 earbuds allow in more outside sounds than in-ear or other types of headphones. Can you have a normal conversation while listening to music at a moderate volume? Probably not. These types of headphones are definitely safer for use outside, but I think many people think they are somehow magical. That they can play music loudly while still allow you to be aware of every sound in your vicinity. That’s just not how science works.

Conclusion

If you are looking for open-air earphones that are truly comfortable, these are the real deal. You can wear them all day (or at least for 11 hours on a single charge) without pain. They allow in more outside noise than other types of headphones while still having the option for reasonably good sound quality. The app has tons of options and the control scheme can be completely customized for your preferences. Recommended!
