Yamaha RX-A740 Aventage Receiver Preview
The Yamaha RX-A740 Aventage Receiver was updated to build upon the RX-A730 and add such features as built-in WiFi and HDMI 2.0. While you may not be clamoring for HDMI 2.0 just yet, this is a huge update that prepares an AV receiver for what’s likely coming around the corner—namely, support for transmission of 4K 60p “ultra HD”. This update doesn’t change much else from the Yamaha RX-A730 and the rear panel looks very similar except for the conspicuous addition of a wireless antenna and the relocated RJ45/Ethernet port. Yamaha mostly shook this model up by integrating wireless networking. For a product retailing for under $700, the fact that it has the new HDMI 2.0 and WiFi will see it landing in a lot of hands. If 4K really starts to take off on streaming services like Netflix and cable networks’ online services, then this receiver and its bigger brother, the Yamaha RX-A740 Aventage receiver will meet the needs of a lot of consumers. If you want a future-ready receiver that is friendly to your streaming music needs, this connected surround receiver is going to fit the bill.
Yamaha RX-A740 Aventage Receiver Connections
There are 6 HDMI 2.0 inputs (5 rear and 1 front) on the Yamaha RX-A740 Aventage Receiver. The front USB input supports iOS devices, and AirPlay wireless streaming is also an included feature. You also get DLNA 1.5, Internet radio, Spotify, Rhapsody, Pandora, and SiriusXM streaming services. If you prefer your music lossless, FLAC and the Apple Lossless codec (ALAC) are supported as well—and you can get it all via WiFi. Even the power cable is detachable so custom installers will be able to customize the way they wire up and rack the receiver. Yamaha sells their Aventage receivers with a 3-year parts and labor warranty.
