Philips PowerSensor Displays

Philips recently announced two new 24- and 27-inch monitors that have built-in sensors to automatically reduce brightness when they aren’t in use. The idea is to use the PowerSensor systems to cut energy costs  energy costs and prolong the life of your display. These Philips PowerSensor displays use a sensor that detects whether a user is in front of the display. When a user steps away, the display automatically reduces the brightness of the monitor, reducing energy use by as much 80 percent. Another nice effect is that you end up prolonging the life of the display. Since the two new displays use LED backlights as well, the eco-friendly 24- and 27-inch displays offer excellent dimming control—not to mention excellent color reproduction. The model numbers of the new displays are the 24-inch (model 241B4LPYCB, $249) and the 27-inch (model 271S4LPYEB, $349).

More than just a neat technology, Philips seems to have designed the new PowerSensor displays with ergonomics in mind. The Philips PowerSensor Displays have a SmartErgoBase that allows for height, swivel, tilt and rotation angle adjustments. The user-friendly monitors also offer SmartImage technology which analyzes the content displayed on the screen and optimizes the display performance. This user friendly interface allows you to select various modes like Office, Photo, Movie, Game, Economy etc., for the application you happen to be using the monitor for. Based on the which you select, SmartImage dynamically optimizes the contrast, color saturation and sharpness of images and videos in real time.

Philips PowerSensor Displays and Contrast

SmartContrast also uses the Philips PowerSensor to automatically adjust colors and backlight intensity to get the best contrast. The monitors use DisplayPort so you can, if needed, use cables up to 15 meters in length and supporting bandwidth of up to 10.8 Gbps/sec.

The 24-inch Philips 241B4LPYCB display has an integrated USB hub with charging capabilities. The display has a 5ms response time, and brightness is rated at 250cd/m2 and the typical contrast ratio is 1000:1. The 27-inch Philips 271S4LPYEB has similar features but with a larger screen area.
