CES 2015 Show Coverage from the Floor – Day 2

On the second day of our CES 2015 Show Coverage from the floor we venture out to capture even more cool audio/video products, gadgets and…well, anything that tickles our fancy. This show has gotten so large that it’s hard to stay focus, and you may see that our coverage jumps from home theater to two-channel, to wireless audio and back again. Hang on, it may be a bumpy ride to explore our CES 2015 Expo coverage, but it’s well worth it!

Harmon’s Revel stirred things up with its Concerta2 loudspeaker which pulls a lot of design elements from their highly-regarded Performa3 line. There are six new models, including the F35 ($1,500/pr) and F36 ($2,000/pr) 2.5-way towers, the ($850/pr) M16 bookshelf speaker, C25 center ($750), S16 surround ($1,000/pr), and B10 10″ powered sub ($1,500).

Tannoy had the Revolution XT speakers on display. Two towers, two bookshelf speakers, and a center channel. These were shown last year, but they’re hitting the market now and are very beautiful, not to mention well-built.

Tannoy’s Canterbury Gold Reference loudspeakers…I’m not sure whether to listen to them or put them behind glass and admire their beauty. These elegant flagship-level speakers feature 15″ concentric drivers and a cabinet design that blends retro with sophistication. How much? If you have to ask, you probably can’t afford them…$39,999.

XTZ Sound’s CINEMA Series speakers are absolutely stunning, with a quad tweeter array unlike anything I’ve seen. While these speakers have been out, they’re also readying deployment of Dolby Atmos speakers for use with their system. These are audiophile solutions that aren’t afraid to mix it up with home theater!

A-Audio showed off some serious bling with their Rose Gold Lyric on-ear headphones. They’re bold…and they’re gold. What else can we say, except that they will cost you $199.

The new Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2 has Anypen technology—which means you can write on it with any ballpoint pen…or just about anything else (Someone from Lenovo suggested a carrot, but didn’t have one on-hand to demonstrate!)

Also from Lenovo was the new FLEX 3 convertible laptop which can be used in any of 4 modes (tent, normal, tablet, or kiosk). It also comes in 11″, 14″, and 15″ size options.

Behold the Panasonic CX850 4K UHD TV which is their newest flagship model, available in 55″ or 65″ sizes. It has Local Dimming Pro, which allows for even more control over black levels when playing back high contrast screen content.

The JBL Reflect Response BT and Synchros S210BT are new Bluetooth in-ear headphones that are designed to let you use “wave-to-control” hand motions (waves, etc) to control tracks, volume, and answer calls. We can only wonder if you’ll get a ton of false commands when you wave to someone while jogging or lift your hand to look at your watch!

HiSense has a REALLY incredible new system that will front project a 100″ image from less than 2′ away! It also uses laser technology so you get 30,000 hours of the lamp system. It’s incredibly portable and looks like a real winner for almost any use—from gaming to home entertainment.

Now there’s Super MHL, which paves the way for 8K support at 120 frames per second as well as HDR, Dolby Atmos and 40 Watt device charging. Get ready for those 8K resolution phones and cameras…or not. In any case, this is pretty cool, and MHL is a great universal plug-and-forget system that’s really starting to take off in consumer electronics.

Ultimate Ears (UE) had a demo whereby they streamed a single source of audio to multiple speakers (they claim you can do over 10 speakers at once). They look to be entering the Sonos/HEOS market with these new devices. The UE MegaBoom in particular (due out this summer) looks very nice and works well with their existing line to provide multiple price points, sizes, and options for consumers.

Phew! (This is a BIG show!) There’s still more to come…so stay tuned here for additional coverage of the CES 2015 Show Expo in Las Vegas. Thanks for reading, and feel free to hit us up on Facebook or Twitter to let us know what you think!
