Control4 Acquires Card Access

If you deal with home automation at all you’ve heard of Control4. This week Control4 acquired the home automation products and intellectual property of Utah-based Card Access, Inc. As Control4 acquires Card Access it delves even further into a comprehensive whole home control platform. All technical support for Card Access products is now slated to be directly provided by Control4 and all Card Access products will continue to be available for authorized Control4 dealers to purchase through the dealer portal.

Adding the Card Access product line to Control4 will allow dealers to add more convenience, comfort and control of smart devices in today’s smart home. Card Access solutions have traditionally been designed solely to enhance Control4 system capabilities. The symmetry and design of these symbiotic products made them incredibly appealing—enough for Control4 to snatch up the company and envelop its assets into its own.

“The acquisition of the Card Access products and intellectual property demonstrates our dedication to building a robust product ecosystem for our customers. By streamlining training, technical support and sales through our award-winning team and providing a powerful marketing engine to support these products, we are helping Control4 dealers build their businesses and enhance their installations.”

Paul Williams, VP of Security & Communications Products for Control4

Control4 benefits from this deal in that Card Access products integrate directly with their software. Card Access software allows users to easily and wirelessly monitor and control doors, gates, garage doors, windows, temperature and more with contact sensors. You can also open and close automatic doors, blinds and gates; raise or lower projector screens; and turn fireplaces on and off with wireless contact relays. You can even create control solutions based on room occupancy, event triggers, motion or pressure sensors, and much more. As part of the assimilation into Control4, Card Access products purchased after this week’s merger will include a two-year limited warranty.

Here is Control4’s official statement:

As of July 1, 2014, Control4 has acquired the home automation products formerly offered by Card Access, Inc. Control4 will now manufacture and develop these products and provide all levels of available product support. In addition, Control4 will provide its standard two-year warranty for all such products purchased after July 1, 2014 (increased from the current one-year warranty). Control4 dealers will continue to be able to purchase products and receive support through the Control4 Dealer Portal.
