Crestron 4K DigitalMedia Receiver Room Controller Scaler News & Opinion

Crestron 4K DigitalMedia Receiver Room Controller Scaler

Crestron demonstrated the industry’s first (and possibly only) 4K/60 Hz scaling technology at ISE 2015, The Crestron 4K DigitalMedia Receiver Room Controller and Scaler features a scaler chip that was developed in-house by Crestron. It converts any resolution and frame rate to any other resolution and frame rate, all the way up to 4096 x 2160 at 60 Hz. The Crestron 4K DigitalMedia Receiver (DM-RMC-4K-SCALER-C) was demoed at Integrated System Europe 2015 in Amsterdam this week. Visitors got to see a live demo of end-to-end 4K/60 Hz switching and scaling. The system supports the latest HDCP 2.2 protocol and uncompressed 4K/60 distribution and scaling.

“While our competitors struggle to add 4K switching support to their products, we’ve raised the bar yet again with the first and only 4K/60 Hz scaler on the market. What makes this cutting-edge product unique is its exclusive scaler chip. We did the R&D ourselves at the Crestron Research Center. Other AV companies simply don’t have this capability. As a result, the technology can’t be found anywhere else.”

Justin Kennington, DigitalMedia Technology Manager at Crestron

Crestron DM-RMC-4K-SCALER-C Features

  • Upscale 1080p and higher resolutions of the latest laptops and mobile devices to display on the latest 4K displays at their full 60 Hz frame rate
  • Downscale 4K sources to properly display on 1080p displays
  • Intelligently convert frame rates for 24p and PAL sources, as well as convert 4K/30 Hz content to 1080p60 or 4K/60 Hz – DM-RMC-4K-SCALER-C is the only scaler on the market that can do this
  • Create video walls, even spreading a 4K source across 1080p displays while maintaining full resolution
  • HD BaseT support
  • Digital-To-Analog Conversion: 24-bit 48 kHz

What is Crestron DigitalMedia 8G+

As the leader in HDMI and control system technologies, Crestron developed DigitalMedia (DM) to deliver the first complete HD AV distribution system to take HDMI to a higher level. DigitalMedia allows virtually any mix of HDMI and other AV sources to be distributed throughout a home, office, school, or virtually any other facility. The latest generation of DM is called DigitalMedia 8G (DM 8G). Engineered for ultra high-bandwidth and ultimate scalability, DM 8G provides a true one-wire lossless transport for moving high-definition video, audio, Ethernet, and control signals over a choice of twisted pair or fiber optic cable.

DM 8G over twisted pair copper wire is called DigitalMedia 8G+ (DM 8G+). DM 8G+ handles uncompressed Full HD 1080p, Ultra HD, 2K, and 4K video signals with support for 3D, Deep Color, and HDCP. Audio capabilities include support for high-bitrate 7.1 audio formats like Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio as well as uncompressed linear PCM. All signals are transported over a single CAT type cable, supporting 1080p, WUXGA, and 2K signals at distances up to 330 feet (100 m) using Crestron DM Ultra or DM 8G Cable, or third-party CAT5e. Higher resolutions up to UHD and 4K are supported at distances up to 330 feet (100 m) using DM Ultra Cable, 230 feet (70 m) using DM 8G Cable, or 165 feet (50 m) using CAT5e.

Crestron 4K DigitalMedia Receiver Single Solution

The new Crestron 4K DigitalMedia Receiver DM-RMC-4K-SCALER-C adherers to the DM 3.0 digital standard with HDCP 2.2 and lossless 4K scaling and provides a single all-in-one solution for a single display device as part of a complete DM system. The system is part DM receiver, part 4K/60 Hz video scaler, and also a single control control interface. Outputs include one HDMI, Ethernet, RS-232, IR, and relay control ports. The DM-RMC-4K-SCALER-C will also handle high-quality video wall processing via the zoom capability on its output so it can limit output to only a portion of the source image. You can link up to 64 individual displays for an 8 x 8 video wall system.

Scaler Features: 4K video scaler, motion-adaptive deinterlacer, intelligent frame rate conversion, Deep Color support, 3D to 2D conversion, content-adaptive noise reduction, widescreen format selection (zoom, stretch, maintain aspect-ratio, or 1:1), video wall processing up to 8 wide x up to 8 high

The Crestron 4K DigitalMedia Receiver is also only about an inch deep, so you can place it behind a flat panel television or display or even above a ceiling-mounted projector. Crestron placed all of the connections on the sides of the unit, so you can access it even when permanently wall-mounted or affixed to a location behind a display or screen.
