HSU D15-Chimera & MFL-6: When Bass Evolves and Speakers Adapt
There are subwoofers, and then there’s the HSU D15-Chimera, a bass-blasting beast that will shake your walls and innards. And like the name implies, it can shapeshift and change into its final form! This sub demands to be the final boss of your end game! All your bass are belong to us!
But wait, there’s more! Alongside this modular monstrosity, HSU Research is also rolling out the MFL-6. It claims to be a highly adaptable loudspeaker designed to fit just about any setup. Whether you mount it, flip it, or use it as a center speaker, it’s built for maximum versatility. It also boasts better dispersion than its predecessors. While specs are sparse on this one, it looks to be a great addition to their lineup!
Let’s break down the details.
D15 Chimera Specs

The D15-Chimera: Dual 15s and a Trick Up Its Sleeve
At its core, the HSU D15-Chimera is a dual 15-inch, sealed subwoofer featuring a 1,200 Watt amplifier in a dual-opposed configuration to reduce cabinet vibrations. Its CEA-2010 measurements put it toe-to-toe with the JTR Captivator RS1, but at half the price ($1,800).

But that’s just the beginning—because this Chimera lives up to its name. Turn it on its back, remove the amp, and stack it onto the optional $500 SuperCharger. Bam, you’ve got the quadruple-ported D15-Chimera SC. This new form stands 37” tall, 18” wide, and 29.5” deep, with the amplifier remounted to the back of the add-on SuperCharger.

The result? A subwoofer that competes with the JTR Captivator 2400 ULF, still at half the price. It even measures flat down to 15 Hz, delivering earth-shattering low-frequency extension.

Pre-orders are exclusive to the full D15-Chimera SC combo, priced at $2,150 (regular price: $2,200). That’s a $100 discount compared to buying the components separately ($1,800 + $500 = $2,300).
The MFL-6: One Speaker, Many Possibilities
Replacing the HB-1, HC-1, and former in-wall speakers is the MFL-6 speaker. It is designed for high sensitivity, power handling, and adaptable placement—all at under $300 per speaker.
Thanks to its keyhole mounts, the MFL-6 can be installed vertically, horizontally, or inverted depending on your setup. Feet are included to give the bottom-firing port clearance when placed vertically. If used as a center speaker, the feet can be removed and the port fires from the side.
Its front face is angled at 30 degrees. This makes it automatically toed-in when wall-mounted or ceiling-mounted, and pre-tilted for center placement. The constant-directivity horn/waveguide tweeter ensures smooth dispersion. Oh, and bass extension reaches -3dB at around 55 Hz, which is a noticeable improvement over the discontinued HB-1.
