Marantz NR1605 Receiver Preview
The new 7.2 channel Marantz NR1605 receiver updates the former NR1604 with an additional HDMI input (8 total) and built-in WiFi. But it also updates all of its HDMI inputs to HDMI 2.0, supporting 4K at up to 60 fps (frames per second). And that WiFi is built-in so it can stream music and access your network without any physical network connectivity—you just need an available WiFi network.
This is the first time, Marantz has brought integrated wireless networking features to one of their AV receivers priced less than $700 (speaking of price, now might be a great time to pick up a Marantz NR1604 receiver as they are selling for a $50 discount). The new Marantz NR1605 receiver also adds built-in Bluetooth audio streaming and ISFccc certification and calibration. This is a very installer-friendly surround receiver that we expect to do very well in the market.
Marantz NR1605 Receiver Connections
There are 7 rear and 1 front panel HDMI 2.0 inputs and one output. The included Bluetooth audio feature means you can connect just about any smart phone, MP3 player or tablet and get audio to the receiver or one of its zones instantaneously. This Marantz surround receiver has a front USB input that is iOS-compatible and also supports AirPlay, Pandora, Sirius/XM, Internet Radio & Spotify streaming services. All of these streaming services can be accessed using the Ethernet port on back or by using the dual antenna WiFi that’s built in.
Audyssey MultEQ XT auto setup and room EQ (with Dynamic Volume) is included and the Marantz NR1605 receiver supports multi zone/multi source audio using either the stereo preouts or by assigning the Surround Back amplifiers. There are also stereo preamp outputs for the main channels, meaning you can connect an external power amp like the MM7025 for additional power. The Marantz NR1605 receiver comes with a 3-year parts and labor warranty.

21:9 aspect, dual video stream… 4K at 60 fps. But the content, where is the content? I’m a late adopter, not buying any HDDVDs lol
Exactly. Other than Sony’s 4K player there isn’t much in the way of hardware, but Netflix is rolling out 4K shortly–and that just might jump-start 4K adoption.
I really wish Marantz would add full pre-outs to this model – it would make an awesome processor. Even adding a center preout would add a lot of flexibility.
Also, other sites list Multi EQ versus EQ XT can you confirm? (XT would be a nice add over previous models.)
