Optoma NuForce MCA20 Multi-Channel Power Amplifier
Optoma recently took the NuForce brand into its lineup and has just released the NuForce MCA20 Multichannel Amplifier. The MCA20 is an 8-channel power amplifier that’s designed to work well with both home theater as well as music listening. The addition of the MCA20 power amp makes sense and rounds out NuForce’s home theater product line. NuForce seems poised to offer products that focus on simplicity, ease-of-use, and audio fidelity. The Optoma NuForce MCA20 delivers 278 Watts into 4-ohms per channel—plenty of power for home theater use and great for connectivity with audiophile-quality speakers. Low impedance speaker lows or speakers which have unusually dynamic impedance curves should be no problem for the MCA20 amp.
The NuForce MCA20 takes a lot of design and build cues from the company’s award-winning V3 series of mono amps. The design emphasizes a focus on low noise, wide dynamics, and excellent signal to noise ratios. The MCA-20’s proprietary feedback circuitry operates in a self-resonant design. The 400 kHz PWM switching frequency constantly adjusts to the input signal, output current demands, and loudspeaker impedance variations, making this a very accurate amplifier.
Simple and direct, the NuForce MCA20 has 8 pairs of 5-way binding posts and 8 analogue RCA inputs to handle the Front, Center, Surround, and Surround Back channels of a surround processor—with an additional channel available for a passive subwoofer.
Since the NuForce MCA20 multi-channel amplifier can support 8 channels, it has plenty of power for most 7.1 configurations, even those utilizing a passive subwoofer. The MCA20 was developed to serve as an audiophile-grade alternative to the sea of consumer-grade amplifiers currently targeting the home theater market.
