THX Announces New HDMI Cables
THX has long been associated with high-end audio and home theater. So when THX announces new HDMI cables, we take a look. Offered in full-bandwidth (48Gbps) HDMI 2.1b, they range from $39.99 to $399.99, and expect to begin shipping in late 2023. Let’s discuss.
THX HDMI Cable Specs
In my experience, HDMI cables are often the weak spot when trying to connect gear to your AV receiver. And with grades like Premium, High-Speed, and now Ultra High-Speed, it can get confusing. To make it simple, all THX branded cables are the newest HDMI 2.1b standard. All cables carry the Ultra High-Speed certification and allow speeds up to 48Gbps.
The HDMI 2.1b standard includes 48Gbps, 100% uncompressed signal delivery, VRR, ALLM, QMS, eARC, QFT, HDR, and the latest HDCP. What does that mean in English? The THX Ultra High-Speed cables will work with any device and give you the best performance.
If you are looking for short runs, THX offers 0.5m (1.64 ft), 1m (3.28 ft), 1.5m (4.92 ft), 2m (6.56 ft), 3m (9.84 ft), 5m (16.4 ft) copper ultra high-speed cables. Longer runs are offered in lengths from 7.6m (24.9 ft), 10m (32.8 ft), and 15m (49.2 ft), in a copper + fibre optical imbedded with Pixelgen’s PXLGLASS technology.
Our Take
In a world of “audiophile-grade” interconnects, the new THX Ultra High-Speed HDMI cables are pricey. But they are reasonable when compared to other offerings. THX certification means that they will always deliver a quality signal. Plus, they won’t be the failure point of your system. HDMI CEC will take that crown!
