Yamaha Dolby Atmos Firmware Update for RX-A2040 and RX-A3040
Yamaha just released a major firmware update for its RX-A2040 and RX-A3040 Avenge AV receivers. The v1.60 Yamaha Dolby Atmos Firmware Update adds, as you may have guessed, Dolby Atmos capabilities to the RX-A2040 and RX-A3040 receivers. It does this by utilizing the rear speaker terminals differently as well as adjusting the user interface and GUI to make use of the new format. This firmware includes supports for Dolby Atmos playback, but also brings support for 4K60p 4:4:4 full color pass-through.
Updating the firmware in your Yamaha RX-A2040 or RX-A3040 receiver can be done in one of two ways. You can use the Internet to download and install the new firmware, or you can download it form Yamaha and install it directly via USB.
Updating Firmware via the Internet
Power off the receiver (place it into Standby mode) and then, while pressing the STRAIGHT key, press the MAIN ZONE key and keep the STRAIGHT key pressed until “ADVANCED SETUP” appears on the front panel display. This gets you into the ADVANCED SETUP mode (Note: this screen only displays for a few seconds). Select “FIRM UPDATE” from the menu and press the PROGRAM key until “FIRM UPDATE USB” is displayed. Next, press the STRAIGHT key until “NETWORK” is displayed.
Press the INFO (WPS) key to start the update (which could take as long as 15 minutes). (Note: If “UPDATE SUCCESS” appears immediately, this means your receiver is already up-to-date. In this case, power off to exit from Advanced Setup.)
Be sure to NOT interrupt power during the update.
When completed, “UPDATE SUCCESS” , “PLEASE…” and “POWER OFF!” appears on the display. Turn off the power of the receiver by pressing the MAIN ZONE key. Confirm everything is correct by powering on the AV receiver and pressing the ON SCREEN key on the remote control. Select “Information” > “System”, and confirm that the firmware version is updated to the latest version (in this case, 1.60).
Updating Firmware via USB
Obtain a USB thumb drive with at least 512MB space and format it to FAT16 or FAT32. Download the firmware (see links below), unzip and copy THE “R03xx-xxxx.bin” FILE into the root (top) directory of the USB thumb drive. Power off the receiver (place it into Standby mode).
Insert the USB thumb drive into the receiver’s front USB port. While pressing the STRAIGHT key, press the MAIN ZONE key and keep the STRAIGHT key pressed until “ADVANCED SETUP” appears on the front panel display. This gets you into the ADVANCED SETUP mode (Note: this screen only displays for a few seconds). Select “FIRM UPDATE” from the menu and press the PROGRAM key until “FIRM UPDATE USB” is displayed.
Press the INFO (WPS) key to start the update (which could take as long as 10 minutes).
Another question:
My old Yamaha receiver worked for 20 years, and everytime I shut receiver OFF, and then afterwards at another time, when turned ON again, the sound stayed in the same exact place.
NO W….I have the RX-A860 stereo receiver, purchased June 2016. When I turn OFF, and then later, turn back ON, EVERYTIME I TURN RECEIVER BACK ON NOW, when the sound comes on, the damn sound ALWAYS is UP VERY HIGH, ear piercing, just about breaking my speakers, THAT IS HOW LOUD THE SOUND IS! Is there a button or firmware which I can utilize to stop this? Is there part of the firmware or something that I forgot to do or touch in order to stop this? OR is there something wrong with the unit? Because this has happened, everyttime, and every day, since Day 1, the day I received it. Everytime I turn ON the unit. It is up towards I think if remember, like 52, as when I turn OFF, I make sure the dial is down ALL THE WAY to “mute”! My email is: REMOVED. Thank you. (*bought through amazon); sept 15 2016 thursday
