Denon AVR-X5200W Dolby Atmos Receiver
While we wait for Denon to surprise us yet again with something new this coming year, the AVR-X5200W receiver sits as the flagship in the current line-up. It’s one of two new receivers from the company which support the new Dolby Atmos Surround DSP system (the other is the Denon AVR-X4100W). The new Denon AVR-X5200W receiver is more than just Atmos, however. Let me fill you in on some of the more eye-catching features that takes it above even the well-regarded AVR-X4200W.
Denon AVR-X5200W Receiver Advantages over the AVR-X4100W
While the AVR-X4100W can handle Dolby Atmos surround, the new Denon AVR-X5200W can support a full 11 channel Dolby Atmos setup. That means that it can take on a full 7.1 surround system and then add an additional 4 overhead, or Dolby Atmos-enabled, speakers. This is known as a 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos configuration. The Denon AVR-X5200W can also, using two additional amplifier channels, support Dolby Atmos 9.1.2—a less common surround format, but one supported by the software nonetheless.
The AVR-X5200W also provides gold-plated RCA connections for all inputs and outputs, and the speaker terminals—all 11 pairs of them—have been updated to premium-quality 5-way binding posts. Other than that you get an additional analogue stereo input and another composite video input (5 total, with a discrete monitor and zone 2 output).
In terms of power, the Denon AVR-X5200W bumps it up to 140W per channel and adds two more amplifiers, making this a true 9.2-channel receiver. The amps are a monoblock construction as well, making for an amplifier section that’s almost as strong as a separates solution. While this Denon receiver only adds a scant 0.2″ in depth, it adds a full 4.2 pounds in weight—and you can bet that’s all chassis and amplifier build-quality.
